Configure Schools and Moderators Notification System

Mileposts Notification System


The Mileposts Notification System (MNS) generates real-time alerts specific to student behavior and other events, keeping teachers and administrators informed and up-to-date on student issues. The MNS is opt-in, and must be configured by your District Mileposts Administrator. Once configured, users may subscribe, and alerts will populate in the Notification Tab on the Mileposts dashboard. 


Mileposts Notification System Terms and Definitions


Active or Inactive Topic


If a Topic is active, then alerts are received by subscribed users through the Mileposts Notification System. This is a simple check box selection in the configuration process. The District Mileposts Admin decides if a Notification Topic is active or inactive. If a Topic is inactive, it is not available for alerts in the MNS. 


Moderators


The District Mileposts Admin decides if a Notification Topic should be moderated or unmoderated. Moderators are tasked with managing the Mileposts Notification System’s moderated Topics. When configuring schools for the Mileposts Notification System, the District Mileposts Administrator decides whether or not a Topic should be moderated. Topics do not have to be moderated. If a Topic is not moderated, then any Mileposts user in the school district may subscribe. If a Moderator is assigned to a Topic, the user request will remain pending until the moderator has approved it. Topic Moderators can be added or deleted as needed.

Admin > District Setup > Notification Setup > Topics > Moderators

Add new Moderator > Choose Moderator from Dropdown > Choose School associated with Moderator from Dropdown > Save





Notification Type


A Notification Type is a module within Mileposts where notifications are supported. The first module or Notification Type in the MNS is Behavior. This list will continue to expand as new Notification Types are developed.


Notification Topic


A Notification Topic is an event that occurs within the Notification Type. For example, the Notification Type is Behavior and the Notification Topic is New Behavior Incidents Created. There can be more than one Notification Topic per Notification Type. 



Configure Mileposts for the Mileposts Notification System

 

1. In the Mileposts Dashboard, go to Admin > District Setup > Notification Setup




2. Select Topics. 


3. Click Schools. 



4.1. Check the Is this Active box to activate notification. If the box is left unchecked, the notification topic is not activated.

4.2. Add Moderator (optional). Please go here for information about Moderating Subscribers.

4.3. Add schools and Save

Once this step is complete, staff can Subscribe. Please go here to see the Subscribe process.  






6. To add Subscribers, click Subscribers and follow the steps below. Click Save when finished. 

6.1. Click Add new Subscribers

6.2. Choose Subscriber from the drop-down menu

6.3. Choose School(s) from the drop-down menu

6.4. Choose Frequency of notifications

6.5. Save
